Did you know that 109,078 people are currently waiting for a kidney transplant in the United States (from the Lehigh Valley Health Network)? Just recently, Nicholas D’Antonio has been added to this list. At only 22 years old, Nick has been diagnosed with IgA Nephropathy, a life threatening disease where the kidneys are forced to malfunction and not filter waste, causing renal (kidney) failure. The only solutions to this are to either live off of dialysis, a harsh reoccurring process where the blood is filtered mechanically, or to receive a kidney via transplant.
You might know Nick from around Broadheadsville or for being that goofball in high school. Nick went to Triangle Tech and got his degree in Specialized Technology in Welding. He then got a job fabricating and welding custom machinery and was doing extremely well, loving what he was doing until one day his illness got the best of him. Now he is currently on dialysis 3 times a week and can’t go back to work until he has a new kidney.
Even though transplants are lifesaving, the cost of the surgery is extremely high but it’s not just the surgery that is expensive. The immunosuppressant medication required after surgery that keeps the kidney healthy and prevents the body from rejecting it, must be taken for the rest of Nick’s life. The anti-rejection medication for a new transplant costs about $5,900 per month. Due to his condition, Nick is unable to work and provide for himself, making this expenditure nearly impossible.
To help with the financial burden of Nick D’Antonio’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in his honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Mid-Atlantic Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please, consider a contribution.

Thank you for your prayers, support and generosity. Keep an eye on this HelpHOPELive campaign page because we will be planning some fundraising events soon and posting updates regularly.

As many of you know my story and what I've been going through for the last 2.5 years of my life I'm so excited to announce that my brother Alex Dantonio is going to donate his kidney to me and the date is set for April 13! I can't express how happy I am to move on from this point in my life, even though it has taught me so much about myself and how we take everything for granted. And a big thanks to my brother again!
