Gregory (Greg) Cummings is a husband, son, and brother who loves life and making people laugh. He also loves being creative which is shown by his style of dress. On February 4, 2015 Greg was admitted to the ICU with chronic congestive heart failure and kidney failure. He had a long hospital stay until the doctors and nurses could get his blood pressure down and kidney levels up. Since the hospital stay, Greg has lost more than 80 pounds and is still losing. He makes the best out of any situation and he remains in prayer as he waits for a life-saving kidney transplant.
After many doctor appointments and tests, on January 29, 2016 we found out that Greg was placed on the transplant waiting list. While this was great news, we are also aware of the work ahead because even with insurance a transplant is costly. After insurance, the out of pocket expenses for the transplant will be $10,000. The biggest expense post-transplant will be medications to protect the new kidney. Greg will need these medications for the rest of his life and they will range from $1500 to $2500 a month. This challenge is more than we can handle alone so we are asking for the support of family, friends, and anyone that would like to help Greg.
To help offset Greg’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in his honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law, are held by Help Hope Live in the South-Central Transplant Fund, and are administered by Help Hope Live for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider making a contribution.
If you are interested in being screened to see if you are a match as a living donor for Greg, please contact Deborah Kendrick at [email protected].
All your support and encouragement is greatly appreciated.
God bless.

On Monday, June 8, 2020 Greg got a call saying a kidney was available. We rushed to the hospital test came back great! So on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 12:30am Greg received his kidney transplant!! He was in ICU for about 3 days and moved to a regular room for 2 days and was out of the hospital on Saturday night!! Now recovery has begun and he is doing great! Thank all who have supported him during this time!
On Wednesday November 6, 2019 we received a call from Tameka telling us that unfortunately she was released from being a donor option because of family medical history and the surgeon believes she would be at risk of developing a health issue in the future due to that family medical history. Everyone’s health is important so although we go back to the waiting list we’re grateful for the sister we have gained in Tameka. Continue prayers are appreciated. Thanks
On July 23, 2019 a sweet and caring person (our life insurance agent) put in a application to be a kidney donor for Greg. Her name is Tameka and she loves us both as a couple and Greg as a great person and she prayed about the situation and allow God to make the decision to apply. On September 11, 2019 she had her first appointment and on the very next day she told us she was the same blood type and was approved for the next Phase! On September 25, 2019 she went for Phase 2 and on October 7, 2019 we found out that she passed phase 2!! Now we will have a few more steps to go but very soon surgery will be scheduled! We thank God for sending the right people our way and allowing new friendships and family to come together to help each other! As Tameka keeps telling us “No need to thank me this is what God wants us to do as Christians help each other” We appreciate her and her family but most of all we give God all the glory and credit for what is being done! It’s been a journey but we’re happy where the journey is taking us!
As of November 30, 2017 Greg's kidney function has gone down to 8% functionality which means it is now time for dialysis treatment. Which he will start on Wednesday, December 8, 2017. While the news is not what we wanted especially so close to the holidays but we continue to pray and have faith in the God we serve because he always comes though. At this time we continue to ask for your prayers and contributions to help during this time of need as he continues to await for a kidney. We thank you all for your love and generosity shown at this time.
