Hailing from Chicago, Illinois, Henry Luvert is known for being a proud family man and community social activist. He has always served his family and spent countless years helping people in the Eugene/Springfield, OR area and all over the world.
However, since he was diagnosed with kidney failure his life has changed. He is completely dependent on dialysis, which he undergoes three times daily at his home. His only chance to return to good health is a kidney transplant.
Henry’s youngest sister Jennifer went through the arduous process to see if she would be a kidney match. After several months of traveling back and forth from Chicago to Oregon, Jennifer found out she is a perfect MATCH! It is a miracle to have a family match and now the transplant surgery will take place on March 15, 2016.
After many years of helping others, Henry is now the one who needs our help.Transplants are lifesaving but financially draining. Even with insurance, there are many expenses that must be paid out of pocket. Some of these are co-pays, deductibles, caregivers and Henry will be on a life-time of anti-rejection medications. In addition, there will be travel and relocation expenses for Jennifer, his living donor and Henry must stay in the Portland area for a month following the life-saving transplant.
To help with this financial burden, a fundraising campaign in Henry’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Northwest Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant related expenses only. To make a contribution click on the “Donate Now” button.
If we all work together we can help Henry’s goal of being at all his grandchildren’s college graduations! Please know that every contribution counts. On behalf of Henry and the entire family, we thank you in advance for your kind consideration.

We did it!! We made it to our goal of $15,000 and we are sooooo thankful to each and every person who contributed to the kidney fund.
Our family is completely humbled to have our community surround us with support.
You truly have amazed us! God bless you all! Here is a message directly from Henry:
Thank you for giving! We only have 30 days left until transplant and every gift counts. Please know that this website does not show your gift right away and takes 24 hours for the total amount to be updated.
Because of this please make sure to sign the guest book, leave an encouraging remark, and let us know how much you were able to give.
We need and appreciate you!
In order to keep you updated on the fundraising, kidney transplant surgery, and recovery we have started a Facebook Page "Help Henry Get His New Kidney"
Please join us there at:
In order to cover PRE-transplant cost we need to raise $15,000 by March 15th. If we get $500/day over the next 33 days we can reach that goal.
Please consider giving $25, $50, $75, $100 or more. We are so touched by your generosity and humbled that you would give to help support our dad! Thank you!!

Good luck, Henry! So many years later, I still remember the valuable lessons you taught me. I wish you good health for many years to come.

When Eugene struggled with systemic racism, in its city structure and employee staff, in the 1980’s - 1990’s, I joined Henry in public discussions debating racial profiling, equity and inclusion in front of various audiences with 10-20 and up to 200+ community members. The city was not always ready to listen to minorities and IPOC representatives of underserved communities. However, both I and Henry spoke truth to the siloed power structure. And, I always knew I could count on Henry’s courage to tell the truth.
