In August 2015, Mackenzie Madsen was diagnosed with a rare form of lung disease. This means that, over time, Mackenzie’s lung function will steadily decrease and, without a double lung transplant, will ultimately prove fatal. At the time of diagnosis, she was merely 28-years-old; a life of love and home and children along with service and wild adventure still ahead of her — waiting to be explored, waiting to be shared. Mackenzie is currently being treated at the University of Washington Medical Center.
Mackenzie is a light in the darkness, a gentle hum over the noise, a kind word and ready smile in a time and culture where charity is rare and graciousness is grossly undervalued. Above all, Mackenzie is a warm hope, understanding the grand purpose of it all and, despite our sometimes minor influence, she knows the innate, potential power of one. Because she exemplifies it.
Even with insurance Mackenzie has many uninsured care-related expenses such as: co-pays and deductibles, continued doctor visits, medications, treatments, travel and (in the future) temporary relocation housing for herself and a caregiver to be near a transplant center along with the costly immunosuppressant medications that she will need to take for the rest of her life.
To help with the financial burden of Mackenzie’s uninsured expenses, she may apply to receive assistance from the Help Hope Live Southwest Lung Transplant Regional Restricted Fund. Help Hope Live is a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law, the property of Help Hope Live, and are administered by Help Hope Live for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider a contribution today and click the DONATE NOW button.
Any and all donations are widely appreciated. But, in addition to any financial contribution you may provide, Mackenzie asks that we not wait until times of grief and loss to reach out to one another with a helping hand, an open heart and a willing acknowledgment of the collective family.
Many thanks for your thoughts and assistance during this time.

Thank you for your article in Redbook! It moved me to contribute to your campaign. The message you are spreading that it's always important to put your best face (and outfit!) forward despite the physical and mental challenges one may be facing any given day is a powerful one! Thank you for helping me to remember the importance of that...

Dear Mackenzie,
I've read enough of Henry's words to know that I would LOVE HIM just as you do! You are an amazing couple fighting the good fight and modeling for all of us, the faith, hope, and love which all of us need to have. God bless you both and YES, I will be mailing in a donation to help you reach your goal. When my husband and I married and moved to Spokane, "our song" was "I Left My Heart in San Francisco".....so we pray that you can rearrange those words a bit to "I Found My Life in San Francisco".....sending a big, big hug....and I can hear your laughter in my head right now. Much Love to you and Henry.....many prayers being said.....Always, Madame McGoran

Kenzie,
You are incredible. I have thought so since the first day I met you. What a bright light you are in this world, and in the face of the struggles placed before you. I wish I had more to give.
Tavia (Womack) Riley
I don't know you but a friend shared your video on facebook. I was so impressed with the two of you, with the joy that emanates from you despite going through such a difficult trial, as well as your obvious love for each other. I have cystic fibrosis, and though I am not at the point yet of needing a lung transplant, I know what it's like to be sick, to not be able to breath, and to not know what the future holds. I wish you the very best. I hope those new lungs come soon and you can start running those marathons!

I just watched the video Alyssa made for you and it totally made me ugly cry! You are such an incredible person with so much light that still needs to be shared with the world! Shine on, girl! If anyone can conquer this trial it is totally you. You are such a remarkably beautiful person inside and out. So many prayers coming your way!

Keep shining, keep laughing, keep writing! You are making a difference in this world.
P.S. I would totally wander around Walmart for hours waiting to buy your autobiography like it was the midnight release of Harry Potter book 7--y'know, if you ever publish one. :) (Do it!)
