Michelle is an active 42-year-old single mother who is in need of a life-saving kidney transplant and needs the help of others to make it happen. Friends and family describe Michelle as a passionate nurturer who has an infectious loving spirit, courageous, faith driven, hard-working, and a sensitive listener.
Michelle was born, raised, and still lives in Fort Wayne, IN. She graduated from Homestead High School and the University of Saint Francis. She is a proud mother of three amazing sons, and works as a physical therapist assistant at Sage Bluff Health and Rehabilitation through Saber Health Care Systems. Her greatest desire is to continue to be an active member of her personal and professional communities, as well as a loving mother able to watch her boys marry and potentially have families of their own. A transplant will extend and improve her quality of life, thus making these dreams possible.
Seven years ago, Michelle was diagnosed with immune complex glomerulonephritis. This is explained by an autoimmune disorder called lupus attacking the kidneys scarring them beyond repair. It is an irreversible condition and now Michelle needs a kidney transplant to survive. Although Michelle has three siblings and three sons, she does not have a matching living donor. She has been actively searching for a living donor since March 10, 2016 when she was listed on the UNOS (United Network for Organ Sharing) waiting list. If interested in information regarding kidney donation please visit: connect.mayoclinic.org/page/transplant.
This life saving procedure is a monumental task and financially draining, as there are many medical expenses not covered by her private insurance. These include co-pays, travel expenses, relocation costs for 1 month to be close to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, and anti-rejection medications for the rest of her life.
To help with the financial burden of Michelle’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in her honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law, are held by Help Hope Live in the Great Lakes Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by Help Hope Live for transplant-related expenses only.
