After 31 years of defying the odds, I am starting the process of getting registered for a heart (and possibly a liver) transplant. I was born with Transposition of the Great Vessels, which means I’m living with half a heart, along with other medical issues. In 31 years I have already endured six open heart surgeries and multiple heart Caths. In 2014, doctors told me that it was finally time to start the transplant process. I hope that you will help me on my transplant journey.
I have always led a “normal” life. I was part of my high school indoor color guard unit, and was a girl scout since first grade. In 2003 I graduated high school, a day my parents thought they would never see. I have tried never to let my illness stop me, even today as I face this scary journey. I truly love being around my family and friends, listening to country music and going to amusement parks. After the transplant, I can’t wait to finally be allowed to get tossed around on a metal roller coaster! I’ve always dreamt of a normal life where I have no restrictions. But first, I need to get this transplant and I need your help.
The cost of travel and lodging at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania can get very costly very fast. Also the anti-rejection medications that I will be taking every day after surgery will be very expensive. I am reaching out for help because my family can’t shoulder this burden alone.
My family and I have chosen to fundraise with Help Hope Live in part because Help Hope Live assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility to the full extent allowed by law for donors. Donors can be sure that funds donated will be used only to pay or reimburse medically-related expenses. To make a donation to this fundraising campaign, click on the Donate Now button.
