Aggressive is an understatement of how the debilitating disease, relapsing MS has attacked Julia Walker’s body in the last three years. She has gone from being gainfully employed, active in church and the community to spending 75% of her time in bed.
Although she was diagnosed with relapsing MS more than 2 decades ago, she pursued a 16-year career as an Education Specialist in the Retirement Services Industry. After accepting early retirement, she continued her career as an Independent Education Specialist. She was considered a “Road Warrior.”
Julia was able to work through the relapses that lasted from 2 months to 1 year by changing her diet and pursuing more active exercise program and medication. She ran 5 miles per day until the MS relapses became longer and more debilitating. Just three years ago Julia was an active member of her church where she served as a greeter, usher, volunteer coordinator for Women’s Ministry and member of the Women’s Sunday School Class. She served on the Executive Team for her High School Alumni Association and volunteered with The American Red Cross and Salvation Army.
Time is critical as the last relapse has lasted almost 3 years. Julia’s functionality has declined substantially during this time and continues to decline rapidly. Her symptoms are hindering her day-to-day life. This ravaging disease has affected her ability to walk, talk, write, dress herself and has significantly decreased her reflexive reactions. The different medications that she is trying are not working. Studies registered with the National Institute of Health show that Adipose Stem Cell Therapy offers 90% success rate in changing the course of the disease and returning the person to normal health.
We are trying to raise $25,000+ to cover the stem cell treatment at Stemgenex in California, transportation from Texas for her and a caregiver and possible additional treatments.
To help with Julia’s uninsured expenses, we have established a fundraising campaign in her honor with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for over 30 years. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law, are held by Help Hope Live in the South-Central Stem Cell Transplant Fund, and are administered by Help Hope Live for MS-related expenses only. Please consider a contribution.
