Breathing is something most people take for granted, howeverfor a person living with cystic fibrosis every breath is a chore. Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease that causes thicker than normal mucus to clog airways and cause infection. After repeated infections and scar tissue buildup the lungs decline in function and will eventually fail.
My son Jared Easter has cystic fibrosis and his lungs are now failing. He needs to use oxygen 24 hours a day, has a feeding tube and weighs just 94 pounds. After many lengthy hospitalizations, medications and daily treatments, doctors have determined that a double lung transplant is Jared’s only hope for health and life.
Before he got so sick, 22 year old Jared used to skateboard and ride his bike around our neighborhood. Jared went to First Colonial High School but was unable to graduate due to missing so much school because of his illness. Driven to succeed, he persevered and obtained his GED. He can often be found playing guitar and spending time with his brother, Ernie Jr., and his cats, dog, snake and fish.
A lung transplant can place a huge financial burden on a family. Insurance premiums, co-pays, anti-rejection medications and relocation expenses are expected to be very high. To help ease this financial burden, we have begun a fundraising campaign with HelpHOPELive (HelpHOPELive), a non-profit organization dedicated to helping organ and tissue transplant patients. HelpHOPELive will administer this fund solely for transplant-related expenses. A tax-deductible donation would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your consideration.Thank you so much for helping Jared get one step closer to his life-saving transplant.
Sincerely,
Connie Easter
