Jennifer’s Story

Jennifer Eckhoff of Pensacola is up against a challenge she cannot meet alone. As many of you already know, Jennifer’s mother passed away at the age of 45 from Hepatitis C which she contracted from a blood transfusion in the 1970’s after being in a terrible automobile accident. Shortly thereafter Jennifer tested positive for the same disease. Doctors believe she contracted it from her mother at birth. Two days after Christmas 2007, Jennifer became very ill and was sent to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. The doctors told us that Jennifer will need a liver transplant in order to survive. She desperately needs the help of her family, friends and the community in order to get through this difficult time in her life.

Jennifer is at the top of the waiting list for a liver at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville where she is considered an excellent transplant candidate. However, funding this type of surgery is a monumental task. It is expected that she will incur hundreds of thousands of dollars in uninsured medical costs, in addition to expenses for travel and relocation at the time of transplant.

This situation is desperate since Jennifer, a Medical Assistant at Gulf Coast Physician Partners, has been unable to work due to her illness. A fundraising campaign in Jennifer’s honor has been established with the National Transplant Assistant Fund (HelpHOPELive), a nonprofit organization that has provided assistance to transplant patients and their families for 25 years.
