Dear Family and Friends,

We need your help. After years of struggling with Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD), Greg will finally be the recipient of a new kidney on August 15th. His cousin, Jayne Flagg, is unselfishly giving up one of hers’ in order to improve Greg’s quality of life.

Dear Family & Friends

First we want to thank all of you who have donated to Greg’s campaign. Your generosity is truly appreciated and will be put to good use covering all donor related costs, medical bills and cost of living expenses (mortgage, utilities and oil).

Second, here is an update on Greg. On June 27th Greg underwent a nephrectomy to remove the right kidney. This was an extra step due to the fact that Greg’s kidneys are so large and have been causing him considerable pain. During the procedure Greg lost more blood than the surgeon had hoped and he ended up getting a transfusion. As a result of the transfusion Greg is currently taking anti-rejection medication to offset the chances of his body rejecting the donor’s kidney. This medication has lowered his white blood cell count so between this and him being anemic, Greg is spending most of his days sleeping, feeling tired, and sick to his stomach. Needless to say we are anxiously waiting for the transplant which is scheduled for August 15th.

As the bills continue to come in and life goes on, we continue to need your help. For anyone who has been through a transplant or knows of someone who has, I am sure they will tell you that transplants are lifesaving but financially draining. The average cost of a kidney transplant and first year expenses is $260,000! Even with insurance, we are facing significant expenses that are not covered by insurance such as co-pays, deductibles, anti-rejection medication and soon additional post-transplant medications. We will come home with a box (literally!) of medications for Greg to take!

To help offset these expenses, a fundraising campaign in Greg’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization, has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible and are held by HelpHOPELive in the Northeast Kidney Transplant Fund and administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only.
