At the age of 27, Duawn was diagnosed with glomerulonephritis. He fought hard to save what kidney function he had left until in 2007, at the age of 38, he was forced on dialysis. This ended his long career as a truck driver and his position as financial provider to his family was weakened. Duawn does home dialysis 4 days a week to stay alive and to be there for his family. The only way to return to good health is a kidney transplant.
Duawn also suffers from an eye disorder called Keratoconus, and needs special contacts to correct his vision, contacts that his insurance will not cover and the cost is well above average; This along with kidney failure is a battle he faces on a day to day .
While Duawn is waiting on a kidney, he is preparing for the financial aspects of transplant. Insurance will not cover all expenses leaving expenses such as travel, co-pays, caregiver expenses and the costly anti-rejection medications that Duawn will have to take for the rest of his life.
To help with the financial burden of Duawn Harper Sr’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in his honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law, are held by Help Hope Live in the South-Atlantic Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by Help Hope Live for transplant-related expenses only. Can you help? All donations will be much appreciated.
Please share this letter with anyone you can. Thank you in advance for your prayers and support.
