My mom, Huguette Del Pont is 69 years old and lives with breathing difficulty every day. She was diagnosed with early stage pulmonary fibrosis in 2008 during a routine checkup. At the time, we didn’t know much about it other than there was no cure and it progresses quickly. Since that time, she has declined significantly becoming 100% oxygen dependent and her quality of life has changed to the point where a lung transplant is her only option for a “cure”.
Huguette was a stay-at-home mom her whole life taking care of our family, my dad’s business and her grandchildren. With transplant, we are hopeful that she will have a better quality of life and more time to enjoy life with family. At this time, Huguette is on the active transplant list at Columbia Presbyterian and Massachusetts General in Boston. Our family is now preparing for the financial aspects of transplant; Although insurance does pick up most of the surgery, there are many out-of-pocket expenses including temporary lodging for a month for the patient and caregiver, co-pays, travel and the costly anti-rejection medications that Huguette will need to take for the rest of her life. Together myself, Sylvianne, and my sister Michele and brother Steven are asking for your help.
