In 1999, my brother Frank was diagnosed with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS), a debilitating disease that attacks the kidneys. He is now completely dependent on dialysis, which he undergoes at home every night. Despite this, Frank still works full-time and is the primary caregiver for his mother. He enjoys spending time with friends and family, motorcycle riding, and hiking at Umstead State Park, but he is looking forward to getting back to the things he is unable to do while on dialysis like traveling, swimming and scuba diving. Frank has been on the kidney transplant list for 5 years.

After many years of helping others, he needs your help. Transplants are lifesaving but financially draining. UNC Chapel Hill, where he is listed for a transplant, strongly recommends that all transplant candidates raise funds for transplant-related items not covered by insurance such as co-pays, deductibles and lab fees. In addition, he will be on a lifetime of expensive anti-rejection medications. This is where your support is desperately needed.

I have some GREAT news! After waiting for 6 years and 7.5 months (on dialysis for 3 of those years), I finally received a kidney transplant about 4 weeks back and am recovering well! Thanks again for all your thoughts and generosity.

Hello Frank,

Your sister Adrienne works with my husband and she has made us aware of your struggle. We pray for a quick match and a successful transplant! May God's love bring you peace.

Just wanted to add an extra note of encouragement here. Tony covered a lot of the key points but I wanted to make sure and second his messages of support in this venue. We're here for you now and will be there to support you throughout!

Dear Frank,
I work side by side with your sister and she shared your story. One Adrienne's characteristics I admire the most is her love for her family, and the strength of the bonds you share are clear in the way she speaks of you. You are in our thoughts and prayers, for healing and peace.
