Donald Bray is a 32 year old man who is very ill. He recently had a liver transplant 07/09/16 needs the help of our community for his overall success and stability.
In 2013, Donald was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre’ Syndrome, a debilitating disease that attacked his immune and peripheral nervous system. This condition left him in leg braces and was so painful he was prescribed heavy pain management medications. After years of struggling with Guillain-Barre’ Syndrome, his liver failed and now a liver transplant was his only hope for survival. Donald is truly one of the kindest, most caring individuals you’d ever hope to meet and he needs our help.
Donald is no longer able to participate in track or help his parents, Rebecca and Donald Sr., with even small tasks like mowing the lawn. He is no longer able to play with his puppy Teddy in the front yard. Donald is music enthusiast and yearns to one day re-open his own computer repair business here in Richmond, Virginia. Anyone who has ever met Donald can testify he doesn’t have a single malicious bone in his body. Donald loves the outdoors, fishing, and helping his community. He is truly one of the most caring, kind, and giving people, despite the many hardships he has faced. Donald would love nothing more but to finish his college degree but he needs our help to accomplish this.
Transplants are lifesaving procedures but are incredibly expensive; they usually cost more than $100,000 annually. Even with insurance, Donald is facing very high expenses including post-transplant medication of up to $1,200 a month, co-pays, lab fees, and various other costs.
Someone in Donald’s situation should not have to worry about the tremendous financial debt not covered by insurance for his transplant in addition to the ongoing medical expenses afterward the transplant. Donald’s caregivers, his parents, cannot carry this incredibly huge fiscal responsibility alone, nor should they have to worry about these financial burdens while their only child fights for his life. At times like this, we must remember as that scared, sick people and their family should not have to worry about dollar and cents when it comes to life or death, but unfortunately these are the times we live in. However we can make a difference….
To help with the financial burden of Donald’s many, many expenses over and above what his insurance will pay expenses, a fundraising campaign in his honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law, are held by Help Hope Live in the South-Atlantic Liver Transplant Fund, and are administered by Help Hope Live for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider a contribution.

Hello friends!
Donald and his new liver are doing well!!!! However he's currently back in Hopkins due to pneumonia. Please send him prayers!
Donald is in ICU after lung procedure and finding a lot of gastro garbage. It's good; they are determined to save him and he is talkative and said he feels much better since the procedure which took all afternoon.
Donald is getting stronger by the day! He is so excited about the future! He is making jokes and smiling!
If it had taken three more days to find a liver and operate on Donald, he would most likely not be with us today. Donald has faced this terrifying news, incredibly intensive surgery, and all the pain and ailments associated with liver and kidney failure with such strength, positive outlook, and determination it is impossible to fathom the words to express how he has, and continues to face these obstacles without a moment of self pity. He is truly amazing. It's now up to us to help Donald have the best future possible. Donald would help any friend in any situation big or small and has been considered rock for many of his friends time after time. We need to be there for Donald as he continues to fight to get well. Thank you from his family for everyone's prayers and well wishes.
Donald received his life-saving transplant on Saturday, June 9th and surgery went well. He is getting stronger everyday.
THEY HAVE A LIVER FOR DONALD!!!!
Donald has been approved to be on the transplant list!
