Hi, my name is Christy Barbeau (Eaton) and I suffer from Secondary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis (SPMS). This disease has been a huge burden on my family. I have been unable to work for years and between the extreme fatigue and muscle weakness, along with the many other symptoms that come with MS, am rarely even able to cook and clean for my family. Since my condition is continually progressing and I have exhausted all treatment options available to me in the U.S., I am planning to travel to Mexico for a life-changing treatment called Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation, or HSCT for short. This stem cell transplant will hopefully stop my MS in its tracks and reverse some of the damage that’s already been done, giving me a much better quality of life. Many people have had remarkable results having this procedure done, some even going from a wheelchair to running. Not just walking, but running! Although I hope for the best, even just stopping this terrible disease from ever getting any worse would be life-changing for me. This is why I’m swallowing my pride and asking for help.
I grew up in the small town of Ossineke, MI. I have two loving sons, Tyler and Kyle. I used to work at Cellular One in Alpena for 8 years and had to stop working 11 years ago due to MS. I can’t wait to bike ride, swim and run on the beach. Hobbies that I loved to do but no longer can because of my illness. Despite my obstacles I remain hopeful.
The HSCT procedure is not covered by my health insurance. I will therefore be required to pay for the total cost of my HSCT therapy out-of-pocket, which is very expensive and much more than I can handle on my own. The estimated cost for HSCT treatment, follow-up care, and travel will be upwards of $60,000. I will also need to pay for post-transplant medications, and more.
To help with the financial burden of my uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in my honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law, are held by Help Hope Live in the Great Lakes Stem Cell Transplant Fund, and are administered by Help Hope Live for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider a contribution today and press the DONATE NOW button.
Thank you for your prayers and support. I will be posting updates on this campaign page, so be sure to stop by periodically to see what is new.
With sincere gratitude,
Christy Barbeau
I have received a date of November 7, 2016!!!

Christy, I've known you since you were a little girl. I'm so sorry you are having to go thru all of this, but I know in my heart that this Stem Cell is going to work and you are going to give Hope to so many others with this horrible disease. Leave everything in Gods Hands and he will take care of you! All my love!
