Joyce Pierno is a 57-year-old woman who has suffered with multiple sclerosis (MS) for 17 years. Since her diagnosis, Joyce has experienced some permanent nerve damage making it impossible for her to work. She is now permanently disabled. This nerve damage has stolen much of Joyce’s independence, yet she rarely complains. She does, however, dream of a time when she can work again and live her life to the fullest. While doing some research, Joyce learned about StemGenex stem cell therapy. In order to try and halt the progression of this disease, and possibly repair some of the nerve damage, this treatment is necessary however it is not covered by insurance. This potentially life-changing procedure will cost close to $20,000 making the financial responsibility overwhelming for Joyce.
Joyce grew up in Brooklyn, NY and graduated from St. Edmund’s High School in 1977. She worked at a NYC brokerage firm as a Vice President in the Capital Markets Compliance area. Joyce attended many classes at the NY Institute of Finance, and obtained various licenses. This is an intelligent, hard working woman who was always on the go. Joyce needs our help to return to a more productive and fulfilling life.
Even with insurance, there are out-of-pocket expenses over and above to the cost of the stem cell therapy. Medications Joyce takes daily total thousands of dollars! They are only partially covered by insurance. She applies for grants to cover the remaining balance, and falls into the catastrophic phase within 3 months. Joyce lives with the constant concern that the grants will be denied and she will have to cease taking her medicine. It is a stressful situation.
To assist with the financial burden of Joyce Pierno’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in her honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to their patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law, are held by Help Hope Live in the New York Stem Cell Transplant Fund, and are administered by Help Hope Live for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider a contribution.
