My name is Shawn White, and as difficult as it is for me to say, I need your help! After struggling with cardiac antibody mediated rejection for the last four years, I have begun to lose the battle and doctors cannot predict how long I have. My survival is dependent on a heart- kidney transplant. After a yearlong search spanning over 1500 miles and multiple hospital denials I have finally found a hospital that will take a chance and perform the operation. However, the only way for this to happen is for me to relocate across the country. Not only would I need to relocate for up to 6 months but my cost of living would increase by more than 50%.

After becoming a heart transplant recipient at the age of 16, I made a deliberate effort to enjoy and appreciate every day, living my life to the fullest. I say there is no such things as a bad day, just some days are better than others. After graduating from Oklahoma State University with a degree in health science my journey in life has been to help and inspire others. I want to be the catalyst that helps people reach their full potential. I am not satisfied, my work is not complete, and I have not affected enough people yet. Please help me, help change the world. Together we can make a difference.

First and foremost I want to extend a most humbling thank you to all those that have taken the time to reach out with words of encouragement and of course to those you have financially donated. In the last three years I have used those donations for travel back and forth to my appointments. I can not express how helpful it has been nor explain the stress it has alleviated. It is spine chilling to see all the love and selflessness being given to me from; friends, family and strangers. I have officially been on the Cedar Siani heart transplant list since 3/17/2017 and finally on 6/24/2019 Cedars Siani Hospital is going to admit me as inpatient. What does this mean? It means we are not done yet, but we are one step closer to actually getting the heart transplant. Moreover, this means its time for me to relocate. After being admitted to the hospital I will be excepted to stay in the hospital until I receive the surgery, which there is no time frame for. Following the surgery and hospital discharge, I will be expected to reside with in a designated range of the hospital. This is where my greatest expense will occur and my challenge to recover begins. I plan on making my hospital stay short and my recovery fast. Stay tuned, follow, and watch what we can all be capable of with just a little help.

Thank You,

Shawn White

As of 3/17/2017 I have been added to the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) waitlist for a heart transplant.
