Hi, my name is Henry Burgess and I would like to tell you a little bit about my family. My wife and I have been married for 44 years and we have three sons and 12 grandchildren. I went to Howard High School and am a member of St. Steven AME Church. I worked at the Defender Management company for 37 years. In August 2014, my appendix burst and caused my kidney to shut down. I was in a coma for 32 days and placed on dialysis, which I continue to receive three days a week. I have been told by my doctors that my only chance at a healthy life is to have a kidney transplant.

Even with insurance, I will have many uninsured transplant-related expenses such as: co-pays and deductibles, travel and temporary housing to stay near to the transplant center in Charleston, SC for at least ten days and the expensive anti-rejection medications that I will take for the rest of my life. My family and I can’t cover all that is needed and are asking for help.
