Jason Baker is a 43 year-old man who is very ill. After years of battling Type II diabetes, Jason is in desperate need of a lifesaving kidney transplant in order to survive. Jason is one of the most kind and sincere people you will ever meet and he needs our financial support to help fund his transplant, as the cost of a transplant can be overwhelming.
Jason grew up in Jasper, Indiana and graduated from Jasper High School. He went on to the ITT Technical Institute where he studied Tool Engineering and then went on to study Automated Manufacturing. Jason has been working at OFS Brands for almost 18 years as a Special Concept Engineer. He has been married for over 17 years to his loving and supportive wife, Mecinda and they have 2 sons, Jordan and Colton.
Jason’s sister, Jennifer, will be donating one of her kidneys to Jason through a living kidney donor transplant. Funding this life saving procedure is a monumental task, as there will be many medical expenses not covered by health insurance: co-pays and deductibles, medical bills, transplant testing, donor expenses and Jason’s travel and lodging expenses to Indianapolis are quickly adding up. Jason will also be required to take costly post-transplant anti-rejection medications for the rest of his life. These out-of-pocket expenses are adding up to more than the Baker family can handle alone.
To help with the financial burden of Jason’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in his name has been established with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law, are held by Help Hope Live in the Great Lakes Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by Help Hope Live for transplant-related expenses only. Your support is critical to the overall success of Jason’s struggle. Please know that your contribution counts. On behalf of Jason and his family, we thank you in advance for your kind consideration.
Gratefully,
The family of Jason Baker, [email protected]

Well, it's been just over 3 years now since my kidney transplant. Thank God that all is going well for me. I have had my ups and downs. White blood cell level dropping to zero...3 times. That was scary. I managed to pull through and nothing happened. I didn't get sick in any way. With the COVID-19 pandemic going on, I sit here at home, at the dining room table, and do my work. Thankfully, I am able to do that for my company and they allow me to do it as well. I have my boys here with me. My wife with her job, she is not able to work from home so she still goes to the office. On a good note, it is staving me a ton in gas not having to go to the office every day!
Well, it has almost been a year since my transplant. Man how the time has flown! I have had my ups and downs. The doctors at IU University Medical Center are amazing! My white blood cell count dropped to 0 3 times over the course of the year. Dr. Yaqub has been adjusting my meds off and on. He has taken a personal interest in me for some reason. I don't care why, because he is a fantastic doctor that knows his stuff
Jason has had his transplant done earlier today! He is doing great! His sister (the one who donated the kidney) is a trooper and is doing wonderful also! Jason is already looking much better. Thank you everyone for all your thoughts and prayers!
Well, what I thought was a cold the day before my scheduled surgery was actually just sinus issues. But due to the drainage, it was making me cough. So they had to cancel the transplant. IU said it would be a minimum of 6 weeks before they would be able to schedule it again. My sister, the donor now wants to wait until after wrestling season...in March, before we try this again. But it seems like because of how her company works the vacation time, she will have to use all of her personal time, and vacation time before the FMLA kicks in. So that means that she would not be able to take any time off with her kids after the surgery. So it seems like the surgery will be postponed until June now. Her tests are good until June 28, so at least she won't have to redo them again. And the waiting game begins again.
On Nov.29, in honor of #GivingTuesday, HelpHOPELive will #FreeTheFee! That means your donation to HelpHOPELive in my honor will NOT have ANY credit card fee taken out. No credit card fee = more impact from your donation! Click to donate now. #TealDeal
