Transplants are lifesaving, but very expensive and Steven needs your support. Recovering in the ICU for over a week now, my dad faces large medical bills from his surgery, co-pays and deductibles, health insurance premiums, caregiver fees, living and travel expenses. Steven is also required to take costly, post-transplant medications that are needed for the rest of his life.
My Dad is blessed with a new lease on life, but as he heals from his transplant, your continued support means so much to his recovery.
To help with this financial burden, a fundraising campaign in Steven’s honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law, are held by Help Hope Live in the Southeast Lung Transplant Fund, and are administered by Help Hope Live for transplant-related expenses only. Your contribution is greatly appreciated. STEVEN has chosen to fundraise with Help Hope Live in part because Help Hope Live assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility to the full extent allowed by law for donors. Donors can be sure that funds donated will be used only to pay or reimburse medically-related expenses. To make a donation to this fundraising campaign, please click on the yellow DONATE NOW button.
We would like to thank you ahead of time for your continued thoughts, prayers and support for my father. Any donation amount, no matter how big or small, is one step closer to a quick recovery and brighter future for my father.
Gratefully,
Ashley Heath, Steven’s loving daughter
UPDATE: As many of you know Steve was struck with Guillain-Barré syndrome after his surgery, which is a disorder in which the body's immune system attacks part of the peripheral nervous system leaving patients paralyzed. My super active, Dancing Daddy has been unable to move any of his limbs on his own for 50 days now.
His determination shows ever day as he endures hours of physical therapy to re-activate the muscles, and get him moving. Last week he started hitting major milestones in his recovery. For example, he was able to sit up on his own for a short period last week. Holding his body weight up has been a real challenge. He also, lifted his hand and waved for the first time last week.
His smile and determination shine through daily, and his voice has finally returned with the help of his trach talk box. Some of you may have had the pleasure of hearing his voice over the phone or in person. Every milestone he conquers gives him a renewed strength, and your prayers, cards, thoughts and visits have lifted his spirit and made these milestones possible.
Steve needs your support more than you all realize, and on this National Day of Giving I would ask you to consider donating to the mounting medical bills that a 45 day stay in ICU and months of rehabilitation can accrue. And, if you can’t give anything monetarily today please consider making sure your signed up to be an ORGAN DONOR, and give the lift of life to someone else when you life on earth is through.
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. ~Philippians 4:13
Dad got 2 new lungs on October 11 2016, after being on the transplant list for 12 days. He is currently recovering at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas,TX. His new lungs are in pristine shape and we hope he is up and singing in the choir at his church very soon. We would like to thank you all for your continued prayers and positive thoughts for our entire family as we embark on the recovery journey.
