My name is Judy Baine, and I am the wife of James and mother of Elisabeth (17), Erial (6), and Emaleigh (4). Simply put, I need a kidney transplant and need the help of my community to make it happen. Transplants are lifesaving, but very expensive.
My journey began many years ago with a diagnosis of type 1 diabetes at the age of 19. I soon thereafter developed high blood pressure. Diabetes and high blood pressure are the top contributors to kidney disease. I was officially diagnosed with Stage 4 Kidney Disease in July 2015 and I was placed on the transplant list in April 2016. The disease progressed and I began dialysis May 6, 2016.
Because of the kidney disease and dialysis treatments, I am unable to be a full-time mom. I spend twelve hours a week at evening treatments, often not able to make dinner for my family. My children are unable to partake in extracurricular activities because I can’t take them. A kidney transplant is my only choice for a long and healthy life. With a new kidney, I will be able to take my daughters to dance class and sports activities.
I have a couple of people who have filled out the pre-screening form to see if they are a candidate for donation, but nothing has come of it, yet. Additionally, funding this procedure is monumental and we wanted to begin early. My insurance will pay for much of the procedure, however the cost of copays, anti-rejection medications, travel expenses (if necessary) for the donor, and more, will add up to more than the Baine family can handle on our own.
To help with the financial burden of my uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in my honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law, are held by Help Hope Live in the South-Central Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by Help Hope Live for transplant-related expenses only. Your support is critical to the overall success of my struggle. Please know that your contribution counts. On behalf of myself and my family, we thank you in advance for your kind considerations.
Gratefully,
Judy (and James, Elisabeth, Erial, and Emaleigh) Baine

I got my kidney! I was getting ready to make lunch on Sunday, March 3 when I got THE CALL! I had my transplant on March 4. It has been slow going at first. What is typically a four-five day stay in the hospital turned out to be ten for me. But now, three weeks later, virtually all my swelling in my legs is gone and my creatinine levels are nearly normal! The kidney I received was a perfect 6 out of 6 match! The surgeon said it couldn't have been a better match!
I'm still sore and waiting on a doctor's release so I can do housework again, but for now, my beloved husband, children, mother, and sister have been caring for me around the clock! A girl could get used to this!!!
On March 1st,2019 our local paper publishes a story about Judy's need for a kidney transplant. On my March 3rd, 2019, Judy comes home from church and recieves the call that they have found a kidney for her that is a near perfect match. March 4th, Judy receives her Kidney transplant. She is home now and with some challenges. We are expecting a full recovery. The link provided tells her story in the local paper.
We've been collecting cans like crazy! Since November 2018, we have collected about $1500 in aluminum cans! We are advertising what we are doing and people are giving us cans by the bagful! God's people being God's people!
I have recently published a small book of poetry available on Amazon Kindle. It is called “Dare to Hope”. The royalties will go toward my fundraising goal. The link to purchase the book is listed below. The cost for the Kindle version is $4.99!!
Well, had my semi-annual appointment with the kidney transplant team today. Somewhat disappointing news. Because of the blood transfusions I had in August they say it's going to be more difficult to find me a kidney. However, we all know this was no surprise to God. My kidney's out there and he knows exactly where it is!
Things are going well! I have passed 1 year of being on dialysis. "They" say for my blood type, the average wait time for a transplant is 2 1/2 years. I know that I am blessed and highly favored of God and that my kidney will come to me when it's supposed to! Thank you for all you are doing!

I am very grateful for all those who have given generously to help my wife and ease the financial strain that comes with kidney transplant and the anti-rejection medication. This donation was from a check made out to Judy from my Aunt Jerry and Uncle John Gradberg. Thank you so much.

I can't imagine being a Mom with young children and facing the health crisis Judy deals with every day. I hope her story will prompt many people to give, even just a little, because every little bit helps encourage her as well as build up the fund.

This donation made possible by the community joining together to recycle cans for Judy's transplant fund. Thank you for caring. The fund did not start growing until the community partnered with Judy for Help Hope Live

The aluminum can drive is quite popular and a success! The $55 I just posted came in from donors collecting cans they have from beverages they have enjoyed and other cans were found. It takes pennies to make thousands of dollars. Thanks to all our supporters.
