We are writing to you on behalf of our good friend, Taunna Fletcher. Taunna is the wonderful mother of Jasmine, Jaila and Jaime who all attend Tipp Schools (10th, 5th, and 2nd grade in the fall). You probably have seen her attending her daughters’ events. Many of you know and love Taunna, but few know her story. Taunna is a devoted and loving mother who never complains about her circumstances. Because she is proud and humble, very few people are aware of her serious health situation.
Taunna worked as a licensed physical therapist. She was always healthy and had no prior health issues when things changed suddenly in 2005. She was diagnosed with end stage renal disease (ESRD) and was told that she needed a life-saving kidney transplant within one year following that diagnosis. With no family donors that were a match, a coworker graciously volunteered to donate a kidney to Taunna and she was successfully transplanted in 2007.
That transplanted kidney has now failed and Taunna is currently undergoing dialysis three times a week, each treatment lasting four hours. Her doctors have told her that she is in need of another life-saving kidney transplant. Her oldest daughter Jasmine has expressed a strong desire to donate a kidney to her mother, but she cannot be considered as a donor until she is 18 years old. Due to her illness she is no longer able to work. The stress of being sick, the fear of the unknown, and the constant dialysis and doctor’s appointments are all difficult on Taunna and her family. Please help us help her.
As friends of Taunna, we can offer our help and prayers during this time. We can also help financially. Even with insurance there are many out of pocket expenses. A fundraising campaign in Taunna’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Great Lakes Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered for transplant-related expenses only.
