At the time of my diagnosis, I was working as a full-time inpatient Physical Therapist. I tried so hard to keep working, but after needing to go on short-term disability multiple times due to about 10 relapses requiring IV steroids following my diagnosis, I had to go on full disability in October of 2011. I could no longer work due to left-sided weakness in my leg and arm, as well as painful spasticity and an additional 5 losses of eyesight.
In 2012, I began taking a second-line medication, on which I did well for 3 years but then failed this May, due to new enhancements on my brain MRI. So, now my options are limited to chemo or HSCT (Hematopoietic Stem Cell Therapy). HSCT is the transplantation of multipotent hematopoietic stem cells, derived from my own bone marrow after my immune system is basically “reset” by chemotherapy. Since the progression of my illness, I have extreme fatigue and spasticity, weakened muscles on the left and now beginning on the right side of my body, as well as numbness in the legs and cognitive/memory issues. I want my life back for my family, especially my two young boys, ages 11 and 9, and having this HSCT procedure would make this possible for me. I could be free of this MonSter forever. It’s an amazing opportunity with which I have been blessed.
I have been approved for treatment at Northwestern in Chicago, for which I will need about 2-3 months of living expenses for myself and a caregiver in Chicago. This is where your help is desperately needed!
To help offset such expenses, a fundraising campaign in Anna’s honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law, are held by Help Hope Live in the Northeast Stem Cell Transplant Fund, and are administered by Help Hope Live for transplant-related expenses only. If you would like to make a contribution, please click the DONATE NOW bar.
Medicare came through!
I have my dates to start my treatment!!!
I leave for Chicago in 5 days!
First chemo is on Jan 27th
Then home on Feb 6, after they harvest my stem cells to rest until…
Feb 16: admission as an inpatient and more chemo
Feb 23: my stem cell infusion and start of my new life.
Thank you to everyone for your support, kindness, prayers, and well wishes. I couldn’t have done this without all of you!
What an amazing 40th Birthday present!
UPDATE! Great news!!! I got my new contract for the treatment! Medicare will be taking over as my insurance. The first deposit will be coming from this fundraising account.
I truly appreciate all of the support, and I will be thanking everyone individually soon. I am hoping to get my dates tomorrow sometime and will announce them on here as well.
Thank you again from the bottom of my heart!
I got myself a Case Manager at Medical Mutual of Ohio and she's been awesome. She called me yesterday to speak with me about my case and then today she called me as soon as she found out that my peer-to-peer appeal is scheduled at 1pm tomorrow between Dr. Burt and a doctor at my insurance.
Please cross some fingers and say some prayers for me that I will win my appeal and will get some dates to come back to Chicago to start the treatment!
And thank you again for all the donations! I am so happy and grateful that you are all helping make this treatment a reality for me!
I found out that I have been initially denied payment for the treatment by my insurance company. Now we are waiting on an appeal with my insurance. I am hopeful the appeal will go through and we can get the treatment covered.
I am truly humbled and blessed to have such an amazing out-pouring of help in my journey to cure my MS. I am so grateful, that there are not enough words. So, from the bottom of my heart, I simply say Thank You. I am so lucky to have amazing family, friends, strangers even! that have gone above and beyond to help.
We are going to beat the MonSter!!
Currently, we are waiting on the pre-authorization by insurance to approve the procedure. Once this happens, I should be getting my start dates where my longer journey in Chicago begins.
Day 3 of steroids finished and feeling much better. Now I am just waiting for insurance to approve my treatment and I'll be able to get my start dates for Chicago.
So much thanks to everyone for donating and sharing my HelpHOPELive fundraiser. Every little bit counts and helps so much! We are almost at 50% of my goal! Keep sharing as much as you can!
Much love to all!
I am currently awaiting my 3 day IV steroids starting Monday morning. Hopefully, they will help with the pain, spasms, and fatigue.
Also, thank you so much to everyone who has donated to my fund so far. I am feeling truly blessed. Much love to you all! And also thank you for following along with my story on http://www.endmyms.com
Deciding whether I need to call for steroids today as it has been a rough day of spasms and fatigue. I am due for the steroid IV but I'm hoping to wait it out if I can since I have the possibility of getting my chemo next month.
Keep fighting! My 11 yo son had a stem cell transplant this past June to cure leukemia relapse and he is recovering very well. It won't be easy but let's hope it helps. Greetings from Poland!
