Dear Family and Friends,
As most of you know Jim is up against a challenge he cannot face alone! Jim was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis a little over four years ago. As a result he lost 40% of his lung capacity and the disease rendered him physically disabled. He was forced into early retirement from a job he loved working as a machinist. This past winter his health quickly deteriorated and he was hospitalized with pneumonia. His lung capacity had decreased considerably, forcing him to be on oxygen. Furthermore, he can barely walk a very short distance without the aid of a wheelchair.
JIM’S ONLY CHANCE FOR SURVIVAL IS A LUNG TRANSPLANT! He was recently evaluated by the transplant team at Mass General Hospital and on May 24, 2013, he was placed on the LUNG TRANSPLANT LIST for a double lung transplant.
Transplantation is not only life-saving, but very expensive and insurance only covers a portion of the expense. We have been advised by the transplant team at Mass General Hospital to try to raise a minimum of $40,000 to help cover the expenses insurance will not cover. This is a huge burden and not many families have the resources to meet the financial obligations such travel, pre surgery and post-surgery evaluations, as well as the very expensive immunosuppressant medications which Jim will have to take for the rest of his life.
To ease the tremendous financial burden of this procedure a fundraising campaign in Jim’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible and are held by HelpHOPELive in the Northeast Lung Transplant Fund. All funds raised are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant related expenses only. We are asking you to please consider making a contribution today in Jim’s honor.

A lung transplant will give Jim a better quality of life. He will once again be able to enjoy doing the things he loves most like spending time and playing sports with his wonderful grandchildren, Kristen 13, Connor 10, Jacob 5, and Emma 3. It will also enable him to play golf and go fishing with his two sons and to spend time with his daughters-in- law, family and friends.
With sincere gratitude,
The Foley Family
