Many of you are aware that Susan Flanders, a wife, mother and nana of 4 grandsons, is battling an aggressive T-Cell Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. As a longtime resident of Westminster, you may have seen Susan around McDaniel College where she works as a catering coordinator. Or if she isn’t at work, you can always find her at home taking care of her family and playing with her grandsons. Now it is our time to take care of her!
Since her diagnosis in September, Susan has received five doses of chemo. The William E. Kahlert Regional Cancer Center where Susan has been receiving her treatment has been wonderful. Susan has been persevering thru chemo by going to work as much as she can and striving to maintain her normal lifestyle. However, the chemo takes a lot out of her. Now she will be moving onto the University of Maryland in Baltimore to receive the stem cell transplant — her best hope for a return to good health.
With the support of family and friends, Susan remains steadfast in her hope for a complete recovery. Unfortunately, this will be very expensive. We are still waiting on the estimate for her medical bills, but the costs will include travel, living expenses while she is out of work and undergoing treatment, lifelong medications, and more. This presents a challenge that Susan and her family cannot meet alone.
To help with the financial burden of Susan’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in her honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law, are held by Help Hope Live, and are administered by Help Hope Live for transplant-related expenses only. Thank you for your support, good wishes, and generosity.
Erin Price, Susan’s daughter
Hi Everyone! First off I wanted to thank everyone for their kind words and donations we're off to a great start! I have a little update on Susan for you. Susan was admitted to the University of Maryland on March 1st to start her Stem Cell Transplant. Since then she has received a very large amount of chemo. On March 7th, they call it Day 0, Susan received her transplant. So since her chemo her white blood count number has gone to 0 which is what was supposed to happen. Now we are waiting for the stem cells to kick in and help bring her white blood cell count back up so she can be healthy and come home again! Her family misses her dearly, especially charlie (her dalmatian). Susan has been so strong throughout this whole process and we are so proud of her. We love you Mom! Also a special thanks to all of the staff on the transplant unit, mom has nothing but kind things to say about their care throughout her stay there. It looks like it is going to be a little while longer before Susan can come home, but we will keep everyone updated on how she's doing. Until then keep spreading the word about our HelpHopeLive site for Susan so we can keep receiving all these amazing donations to help pay for Susan's Life Saving Transplant. All of your kind words and contributions really mean the world to us! Sincerely, Erin Flanders
