Meitta grew up in Jacksonville, Florida and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and studied Cosmetology at the Riverside Hairstyling Academy. She is a single mother of two children, ages 18 and 14. She was employed by EverHome Mortgage Company in 2010 until a company merger layoff in May 2014. Meitta started a janitorial business (J-n-M SparCleaning Service), but due to health problems could not continue to pursue her business.
In June 2014, she was hospitalized with congestive heart failure (CHF). Determined to remain financially stable despite her illness, Meitta sold cookies, brownies, and other various sweets around the city. In December 2015, she worked part-time at the Kangaroo Gas Station to keep from losing her transportation and provide for her family. Again, she was hospitalized with CHF. At that time, she applied for disability and has been denied several times. Resolved to succeed, she continued to work two part-time jobs but was forced to stop working due her heart failure. Finally, the surgeon decided to surgically remove the mass off her right adrenal gland, but after six years, the damage to her heart and kidneys was irreversible.
Family and friends are committed to supporting Meitta and pray that she will soon receive the “gift of life.” However, funding this lifesaving transplant is a monumental task. Even with existing medical insurance, this procedure is not funded. In addition to the surgery itself, there are sizable expenses including relocation to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville for a two-month period, copays, lab fees, and post-transplant medications costing up to $1,200 a month. This presents a challenge Meitta cannot meet alone.
To help with the financial burden of Meitta’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in her honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law, are held by Help Hope Live in the Southeast Heart/Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by Help Hope Live for transplant related expenses only.

Good morning all, I know it a very late update but I went in for my heart transplant September 16, 2017. I was lying on the table when they put me under and they place a probe down my throat and say that my heart had corrected it self from an ejection fraction of 15% to 45% with the help of the medicine. They immediately notified my family as they are waiting in the waiting room that I didn't need the heart at this time. I still remain on the waiting list because the doctors stated that they don't know how long the medicine would continue to work. They also have not released me from there care. So I as still that every one still keep my in your prayers and every donation will bless me to continue to receive the care and provide for my family.
Thank you
It's a great day! I have been informed that I am 1B on the waiting list. If you are wondering as I was "What place is that?", well it is 2nd from the top of the list. I am really excited because I have heard and read that it could take years for a heart transplant and it will be 7mo on the 27th of this month that I have been waiting. I say God is good and he definitely answers prayers. I thank God for life health and strength and a great support system.
Hello all,
I finally made it home from a long day in Gainesville at the doctors office. I received Wonderful news that everything is going Great. I am now on the heart/kidney transplant list as of May 5, 2017. The doctor said I am just one phone call away. So I said a prayer to Lord, please let me stay Great and receive my call within the next month or two.
