I Need Your Help!

My name is John Zerby Jr. and I was diagnosed with liver cancer in January of 2017. Since then, I have undergone multiple tests and procedures. My medical team said that I will have to cover financial obligations to get placed on the liver transplant waiting list. My out-of-pocket expenses are steadily mounting, including every test and procedure in advance of the surgery, as well as post-transplant expenses that my insurance does not cover. Costs will be in the thousands. This presents a challenge that I cannot meet alone.

Dear John Clyde Zerby Jr.,

The Medical University of South Carolina Liver Transplant Team reviewed your case and determined your liver disease is advanced enough that you will likely benefit from liver transplantation. Therefore, we placed you on the liver transplant waitlist on 7/11/17 due to Hepatitis C and HCC.  Your MELD score is 16.

Your place on the waitlist may change based on your condition. If it declines to a level where transplantation will not be helpful, your name may be removed from the waitlist. We will inform you and your physician immediately if this does occur.

The Medical University of South Carolina has a transplant doctor and surgeon available 365 days per year, seven days per week, and 24 hours a day to provide transplant services. If there is a change in this coverage, you will be notified in writing by our center.
Please be sure to review the enclosed educational information, and feel free to call us at 843-792-5097 with any questions or concerns. You can also reach the Transplant Coordinator for medical emergencies at 843-792-2123by asking the operator to page the Transplant Coordinator on call at that time.
