In January, 2009, Kenza Kadmiry was just beginning her second semester of her senior year in high school, with a very ambitious future ahead.

One month later, on February 20, 2009, Kenza was riding her bike through a crosswalk, going about her usual day. She had the right of way, but the oncoming car did not slow down, despite the lights flashing in the street. Unfortunately, the car struck Kenza. The impact of the collision that day flipped her life on its head, both literally and figuratively. Her body sustained a cervical spinal cord injury. Consequently, her body was paralyzed from the chest down, with the inclusion of her hands.

For the past 11 years, Kenza has relied on others to get around, being lifted out of her wheelchair and into someone’s vehicle, or using ride services that are not always available, unpredictable and overall quite exhausting. These experiences have ultimately led Kenza to avoid the process as often as possible, further limiting her quality of life.
