Viscardia’s long battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) has come to a critical point. There is no cure for IPF and the life expectancy of a person with IPF is 2-5 years. Our mother, and grandmother of four, is now in her fourth year battle with this life threatening lung disease and will need a double lung transplant to prolong her life. We’re asking family, friends and anyone who has the means to help to join us in fundraising for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to help with critical expenses Viscardia will face immediately after surgery.
Viscardia is known by her family for being the backbone of the family. Her friends, and anyone who has had the pleasure of being in her company, will describe her as a warm, kind-hearted, selfless, giving person. She will go out of her way to help those in need. Since being diagnosed in 2016 at only 47 years old, Viscardia has been determined to live her best life.
Having lost several family members, including her mother, aunt and cousin to the same lung disease, she has developed a deeper appreciation for the things that most of us take for granted, like taking a deep breath or walking a flight of stairs or even just taking a short walk from the driveway to the front door. While these simple tasks have become more and more difficult to do for our mother, she NEVER complains. IPF most commonly affects those ages 60 and over and at only 52 years old our mother has so much more life to live and so much more love to give.
Viscardia has been evaluated 4 times for a lung transplant and this time she has been placed on the transplant list. While Viscardia does have health insurance, surprisingly there are many expenses that are not covered, such as the monthly anti-rejection medications that she will need for the rest of her life. Additionally, she has been told by her health care team to anticipate upwards of $5,000 per month just for medications alone.
Donations to Help Hope Live can help ease the financial burden of a transplant and allow Viscardia to focus on a healthy recovery and a long life ahead with her family.
Family and friends of Viscardia Cherry-Moore are raising money to pay for uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation.
Viscardia has chosen to fundraise with Help Hope Live in part because Help Hope Live assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility for donors. Donors can be sure that funds donated will be used only to pay or reimburse medically-related expenses. To make a tax-deductible donation to this fundraising campaign, click on the Donate Now button.
