In the early months of 2017, Steven was admitted to the hospital to receive critical care as his heart continuously failed on him. On April 18. 2017, Steven gained a spot in the operating room for a very long six hours as doctors implanted a left ventricular assist device (LVAD). This device pumps the blood through Steven’s heart while he is on the transplant waiting list for the arrival of a new heart.
With sudden unemployment for Steven and his family, the portion of the medical bills that insurance doesn’t cover, plus co-pays for lab visits, financial assistance could not be more helpful. Steven has two daughters to see graduate college, walk down the aisle, and, eventually, bring grandchildren to play with. With your support, Steven will be around to accomplish those life goals and more!
To help with this financial burden, a fundraising campaign in Steve’s honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law, are held by Help Hope Live in the Great Lakes Heart Transplant Fund and are administered by Help Hope Live for transplant-related expenses only. Your contribution is greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much for your support!
Update! Steven has been home for almost two months now! He is feeling more healthy and has enjoyed getting back to his normal routines like cooking dinner for the family!
Steve received his L VAD surgery on April 18th, 2017 and is currently awake and breathing on his own just a day later!
