Six years ago, my life changed forever! I had been ill on and off for several weeks. I was told by my doctor that I had the flu, but my symptoms were so severe that I went to the hospital. The ER physician agreed with that diagnosis and I was discharged. Within 24 hours, I returned to the emergency room. Only this time, I woke up 14 days later with tubes coming out of my neck, chest, and leg. I was so swollen that I couldn’t even recognize myself. I didn’t realize what happened to me. I was then informed that I had one of the rarest forms of pneumonia. I have no idea how I was infected, but since that time my lungs haven’t recovered. Now my only option is a lung transplant.

Transplantation is life-saving, but extremely expensive. Even with insurance there will be significant out-of-pocket costs not covered by insurance. I will be responsible for approximately $1,500 per month to cover copays, physician bills, and pharmaceutical costs. This presents a challenge that my family and I cannot meet alone.

To help with the financial burden of my uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign has been established in my honor with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to help patients and families in need for more than 30 years.
