Lis is a single mom who just turned 42. She has been a positive and inspiring person, even with all the roadblocks life has put in her way. At age 8, she was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. At age 29, she had quadruple bypass heart surgery. A year later, she became a spokesperson for WomenHeart – the National Coalition for Women with Heart Disease where she inspired and educated many.
Unfortunately, her health issues have worsened. In addition to living with the daily struggles of diabetes, she now has neuropathy, congestive heart failure, diabetic retinopathy, and is in stage IV kidney failure. Lis has been going to pre-transplant appointments and has been cleared by her nephrologist, however she now faces yet another challenge. In order to even qualify for placement on the transplant list, she must have all of her teeth removed and replaced with dentures. This is necessary due to infection from all the required medications she has taken throughout the years. She needs $14,000 to cover the cost of this procedure before she can be listed for transplantation.
To help with the financial burden of uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign has been established in honor of Alethia (Lis) Rosario with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to help patients and families in need for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law and are held by Help Hope Live in the South-Atlantic Kidney Transplant Fund in honor of Alethia (Lis) Rosario. Donations are allocated by Help Hope Live based on financial need for medical expenses. Please consider making a donation.

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVE, Friends & Family!! Love, joy & peace to you all!
Quick update:
I (apparently) made it thru the peritoneal placement surgery! I am so very blessed and thankful for it! However, as with how it tends to go with me...there were complications! What was meant to be same day placement surgery for the peritoneal cath turned into an urgent admission and two day stay to include a cath placement for immediate hemodialysis!
There are other little issues I’m facing at this point, but I honestly can’t even say that I’m dealing with them right now. But that’s really neither here nor there! RIGHT NOW, I’m (maybe barely) BUT STILL STANDING!!! And to b so brutally honest, it feels AMAZING to NOT be so swollen that it’s hard to even breathe!
THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR YOUR CONTINUING SUPPORT, LOVE & PRAYERS!!
...ok maybe it wasn’t a QUICK update lol...merry Christmas Eve ❄️
Good morning, Friends & Fam!!! I know, I know...I don’t post so much anymore! Forgive me, please!
I really do appreciate everyone’s support, thoughts, and prayers. They have gotten me through the hard days more than you know! Thank you!
As many of you know, I’m going through the long, drawn-out, and most painful process of having to get dentures in order to be considered to even get on the waiting list for a pancreas-kidney (or even. kidney) transplant. So today, I’m headed to the dentist...filled with anxiety much like the last time I went! They will be extracting 4-6 more teeth this time, giving me time to heal a bit, and then going back in to get more at a later date! This is so much more draining and complicated AND PAINFUL than I imagined!
I only wanted to update you all and THANK YOU!! As I said, it’s been all of your support, thoughts & prayers that have helped get me through. Thank YOU all so much and THANK GOD for EVERYTHING & EVERY DAY (especially the hard ones)!

Hello all!
After tons of phone work and a few consults, I FINALLY FOUND A DENTIST! I am very excited because I am able to start the process for dentures now because they also offered a payment plan! I am here now feeling very nervous, but I'm too happy to get something going that I'm not gonna let my nerves get the best of me! Thanks for all of the continuous thoughts, prayers, and support!

Hello, all...
I thought I'd add an update even though I haven't had much- if any progress at all. I have had some setbacks and see many mountains ahead, and honestly, I am TIRED (in every sense of the word)!
I must also say that I am still on the journey, pushing harder and harder! Reading other stories on this site, and the constant flow of love & support from friends, family & even people I don't know keep me marching on!
While I march and sometimes fall, I look & see those FOOTPRINTS in the sand, and I feel lifted again. HE always carries me.
Good morning everyone out there! FIRST OF ALL, I wanted to say THANK YOU SO MUCH to ALL OF YOU who have already made contributions toward my fundraising goal!!
This process is not short nor is it easy! Honestly, I knew that, and I didn't expect to just fly right through it. In the other hand, I totally did not realize how much of my strength, positivity, and perseverance I had ALREADY been using to get through each day! Then SURPRISE...here you go...KIDNEY DISEASE! So, I do what I've ALWAYS done before when being faced with diagnoses of a life threatening, progressive disease... I bow my head down showing my Aries Ram horns and let this disease know that I am NOT GOING DOWN like that!! I will fight this with all my might, all the way!
Having said that, I really am only human. This has to date been my hardest journey. There have been so many set backs and roadblocks that I've found myself breaking down more often. That's very hard for me to admit. It's always been very important to me that I stay strong and positive not just for me, but mostly for my son.
I've said all of this to hopefully express to you all of you that my "thank you" comes from the deepest part of my heart! I was having a very hard day just the other day. I was doubtful and was losing my positive outlook AND THEN I SAW MY PAGE! All of your thoughts, prayers, support, and donations reminded me that I'm not on this journey alone! You all brought me back up! Sincerely THANK YOU!
- Lis (short for Lisa!)
Alethia or "Lis" (LēS) as she's known by has just started her journey for both a kidney and pancreas transplant.
A little about Lis:
She is a single mom who just turned 42 and has been a positive and inspiring person, even with all the roadblocks life has put in her way.
At age 8, she was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. At age 29, she had quadruple bypass heart surgery. A year later, she became a spokesperson for WomenHeart - the National Coalition for Women with Heart Disease where she inspired and educated many. Unfortunately, her health issues became worse. She now, not only deals with the daily struggles of diabetes, she has neuropathy, CHF, diabetic retinopathy, and is in Stage IV kidney failure.
She has been going to pre-transplant appointments and has been cleared by her nephrologist, but has had yet another roadblock.
In order for her to even qualify to be put on the transplant list, she has to have all of her teeth removed and replaced with dentures (due to infection from all of the medications she has had to take throughout the years).
The amount of $14,000 for her goal is to cover the cost of this procedure so she can get on the list.
