Nelda was diagnosed with kidney disease at the age of 14. At the age of 21 her kidneys were only working at 5% of their capacity and she had to begin dialysis. After three years in dialysis, she received her first kidney transplant. Twelve years later her husband was able to donate a kidney to her. Twelve more years have gone by and she is in need of yet a 3rd kidney transplant. Nelda needs your help for this wonderful miracle to take place. The cost of uninsured transplant expenses can be staggering for things such as: co-payments for the multiple doctors’ appointments, immunosuppressant medication, relocation expenses, medical supplies, loss of wages, and bills for the home. To help with some of these uninsured expenses a fundraising campaign in Nelda’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive (formerly NTAF), a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for nearly 30 years. All contributions are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the South-Central Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. We appreciate your support. At times like this, the help of family, friends and the community is crucial to help ensure a successful outcome. Your financial gifts and prayers are greatly appreciated.
It’s that time in my life again! I am in need of my 3rd kidney transplant. I am in the process of being put on the transplant list. It is time to start campaigning to find a living donor if possible and for financial help.
It has been a while since I have come to my page because I was thankfully on Social Security and Medicare. My out of pocket expenses had been bearable. Unfortunately, Social Security has said I am no longer disabled according to their policies.
I will no longer receive Social Security or Medicare.
My last check up turned out elevated creatinine levels and a kidney biopsy was ordered. I was at borderline rejection. I received IV therapy to reverse the rejection.
My husband had to miss almost 2 weeks of work to take care of me and his line of work does not offer paid days off. I am now turning back to fundraising to help with our financial burden.
Thank you all for your kindness and God Bless You!
TRANSPLANT SURGERY
SUCCESS !!
WE HAD OUR TRANSPLANT AND DONOR SURGERIES ON DECEMBER 6, 2012 AT UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS HEALTH SCIENCE CENTER SAN ANTONIO. MY HUSBAND WAS THE DONOR AND THE KIDNEY WORKING GREAT. MY CREATININE IS AT 0.9 AND I AM FEELING GREAT. I GOT MY APPETITE BACK. I AM SO HAPPY AND CAN'T WAIT TO START WORKING. I HAVE DECIDED THAT I WANT TO WORK IN THE FIELD OF ORGAN AND TISSUE DONATION AND TRANSPLANTATION. MY HUSBAND IS ALSO DOING GREAT. HE WAS TOLD HE WOULD BE IN GREATER PAIN THAN ME, BUT IT WAS NOT THAY WAY. HE IS DOING WONDERFUL. I WILL CONTINUE TO POST UPDATES AND HOPEFULLY SOON WILL HAVE EVEN GREATER NEWS ABOUT STARTING A FAMILY.
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HELPED US IN MAKING THIS GREAT MIRACLE TAKE PLACE.
GOD BLESS YOU EVERYONE !!
