My name is Steve, and I am Larry Olson’s health care partner and advocate. Currently, Larry is a Peritoneal Dialysis Patient awaiting a Kidney Transplant. As some of you may know, Larry’s family has been on a very difficult journey asking, searching, and praying specifically for that one compatible donor to show up in our path and donate a kidney for Larry. While I have stepped forward as a potential donor in this quest, I am still going thru the testing process. We’re keeping our fingers crossed and should know very soon. Together, Larry and his family are strongly committed to seeing him through this transplant.
As brief background, Larry grew up in Florida, attended high school in West Germany at the Frankfurt International School, and graduated afterwards from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. He moved on earning his Master’s degree and PhD in Sociology from The University of Southern California, and then later an MBA in Marketing from the UCLA Anderson School of Management. His professional career has been largely in the area of Healthcare Market Research until suddenly without warning, he was stricken by Chronic Kidney Failure and could no longer actively work. He was subsequently diagnosed with End Stage Renal Disease.
Transplants are life-saving but financially draining. Even with insurance, Larry is facing very high expenses, including relocation for six weeks to be closer to The Jefferson Nicoletti Kidney Transplant Center, post-transplant tests and anti-rejection medications, costing up to $1,500 a month, co-pays, lab fees and more.
To help with the considerable financial burden of uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign has been established in honor of Lawrence (Larry) Olson with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to help patients and families in need for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law and are held by Help Hope Live in the Mid-Atlantic Kidney Transplant Fund in honor of Lawrence Olson. Donations are allocated by Help Hope Live based on financial need for medical expenses. Please consider contributing today.
