Jacob recently celebrated his 20th birthday while in the ICU this year. He has always marched to the beat of his own drum. Although he did not graduate with his class in 2015, he went back to school and got his high school diploma in 2016. He is usually a home body and our family describes him as our “gentle giant.” In late April of this year Jacob left home to spread his wings. He started working in Arizona living with family. That was cut short when the accident happened.
In spite of the many struggles he faces, Jacob remains hopeful he will be able to return to a productive life in the community through the support of family and friends. His family are preparing to make several modifications to their home in order to make it wheelchair accessible. Another expense they face is the purchase of a specially modified vehicle. Jacob has some medical expenses that will not be covered by insurance.
To help offset such expenses, a fundraising campaign in Jacobs’s honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law, are held by Help Hope Live in the Southwest Spinal Cord Injury Fund, and are administered by Help Hope Live for transplant-related expenses only.
