Together, Kurt and his family are committed to seeing him through this transplant. In addition, two of Kurt’s family members have come forward to be potential living donors, which is an amazing gift to Kurt.
Transplants are lifesaving but financially draining. Even with insurance, Kurt is facing very high expenses including possibly relocating to the University of Utah Transplant Center, insurance deductibles, post-transplant medications of likely over $1000 per month, co-pays, lab fees, and more. In addition, there will be significant similar costs for his living donor.
To help with the financial burden of uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign has been established in honor of Kurt Leininger with Help Hope Live, a trusted 501-3c nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to help patients and families in need for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law and are held by Help Hope Live in the Southwest Tranplant Regional Restricted Fund in honor of Kurt. Donations are allocated by Help Hope Live based on financial need for medical expenses. Please consider making a contribution today. For credit card donations, please visit www.helphopelive.org and search for Kurt Leininger or call 800.642.8399.
Thanks to all who donated. We have raised over $5000 currently.
Kurt had to get some oral surgery completed to move forward with the transplant process. That is completed and that work was not covered by insurance, so we have used the funds raised to date for that work.
Kurt is doing and feeling well currently as he awaits a matching liver. Keep him in your prayers.
Good news. After a bit of a delay, Kurt has been placed on the transplant list. It took a little longer than we had hoped due to some apparent "emergency" listings the staff at U. of Utah Hospital had to deal with, but he got the call late last week.
This is a long process. Living donor possibilities will be evaluated in the next few months.
Keep sending thoughts and prayers and encouragement to Kurt.
Kurt had a good Dr's appointment in Salt Lake City on Friday. He has gained weight and is feeling better. The Dr. made the comment that he looks like a great transplant candidate. Everything needed to get on the transplant list is complete and he should get on the list either today or next Monday (review happens on Mondays). Once on the list, the living donor possibility can be evaluated. That process can take 6 to 8 months.
Keep Kurt in your thoughts and prayers and we welcome any help in raising money for helping to cover uninsured medical expenses.
Kurt has been battling liver issues over the past year. He has been off work for the past 6 months. He is currently going through the processes, including medical tests and treatments necessary to get onto the liver transplant list. He is also very fortunate to have two possible living liver donors (family) that have stepped forward.
We are hopeful that he will get on the transplant list in early October. Once on the list, tests can be done to evaluate the living donor possibility.
While Kurt has health insurance due to the extremely generous support of his past employer, we are seeking contributions to help with many of the medical/ travel expenses that are not covered by insurance.
Your contribution is tax deductible. We also ask for your thoughts and prayers for Kurt as he battles and overcomes his health issues. Let Kurt know you are thinking about him by posting on his page.
