Terry Diane James needs a kidney transplant!
The costs are overwhelming. She needs to raise $7,000.00 just to get on the kidney transplant list.
Volunteers are planning fundraisers to help offset this cost with the hope of raising the full $7,000.00 but she needs your help and every dollar donated helps get her to that goal.
In 2013, Terry had a heart bypass. Subsequently in 2014 she had kidney failure and has been on daily dialysis since the illness. Doctors say a kidney transplant is critical to her survival.
Terry James was born on May 6, 1958 in Talihina, Oklahoma to Harry and Carol James. She had seven sisters and four brothers whose names in order of oldest to youngest are Clyde, Marie Theresa, Mary, Sarah, Hope, Laura, Michael, Anthony and Scott.
Terry grew up in Talihina participating in extracurricular activities such as basketball, playing saxophone in band as well as the lead twirler for the high school band. Terry graduated from Talihina High School in 1976.
Terry then attended the University of Oklahoma from 1976-1981 where she played on the Oklahoma Sooner women’s basketball team and excelled in her position as guard. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences with a Major in Recreation Management.
After college Terry married Don Murphy and they had two sons, Chad Joseph Murphy born in 1983 and Cory James Murphy born in 1985. She and Don were married for 7 years. Terry then married Mike Ragland and they were married for 25 years until 2017.
Through her two marriages and raising two sons Terry worked as an adjuster, handling on the job injuries for various companies eventually retiring in 2017 from the native Oklahoma Business Braums.
Terry was raised as a traditional tribal member. Her dad, Harry James, a full-blooded Choctaw from Talihina, Oklahoma, a U.S. Veteran serving in World War II and the Korean War, and a renowned silversmith raised her with the knowledge of living your life as a Choctaw tribal member. Terry’s mom, Carol Cross, (maiden name) was Caddo and Potawatomi and grew up in Colony, Oklahoma. Her grandmother, Evelyn Tomey Cross, gave Terry her Potawatomi name En Zowie after her great-grandmother Mary Vieux Tomey.
Despite her health challenges, Terry, 59, who currently lives in Norman, Oklahoma is very optimistic and focuses on the positive things in her life, such as the company of her 7 grandchildren who are Shoshoni, Seneca, Phoenix, Nashoba, Ryder and Talen as well as her numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She loves cooking for her family and watching Dallas Cowboys, any Sooner sports, and the Oklahoma City Thunder games. She is grateful that she is surrounded by a strong support system of her many loved ones and looks forward to getting the kidney transplant and resuming her blessed life.
She thanks you for any donation in her pursuit for the kidney transplant.
