For those of you who know Braxten or who have spent any period of time with him, you know that he brightens up any room he enters and has a fierce love for life and everyone he meets. While Braxten was riding in a PRCA rodeo, his horse reared up and smashed him against the shoot, compressing and twisting his spinal cord, resulting in breaking his T-12 and L1 vertebrae. He was flown to the University of Utah Hospital where he immediately underwent a 5-hour extensive surgery. After, Braxten was told he is paralyzed from the waist down. Braxten spent 2 months in the hospital and is now undergoing intense therapy in an outpatient rehab facility. As you can imagine, the care he needs, and his hospital bills are terribly expensive, which is why we need your help.
Braxten has a fighting spirit and is determined to follow his favorite motto: “We are born to succeed”. If anyone can beat the odds and overcome the adversities of their tragic event, it is Braxten. He was recently attending College of Southern Idaho, but after the accident he had to move back home, where they are preparing to make several modifications to make it wheelchair accessible. Another enormous expense he faces is the purchase of a specially modified vehicle. Also, Braxten will be in an intensive therapy program that will strengthen his body and help him regain some additional function in his lower extremities. The facility where he is undergoing this therapy is 2 1/2 hours away and travel expenses will be yet another considerable financial burden. None of these expenses will be covered by insurance.
To help with the financial burden of uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign has been established in honor of Braxten Nielsen with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to help patients and families in need for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law and are held by Help Hope Live in the Southwest Catastrophic Injury Regional Restricted Fund in honor of Braxten Nielsen. Donations are allocated by Help Hope Live based on financial need for medical expenses. Please consider making a tax deductible contribution today.

Thank you for any help that you can give.
Sincerely,
Kathy Nielsen (Braxten’s mom)
