Rev. McCarrell needs a kidney transplant. Transplants are lifesaving but very expensive. Therefore, he needs help from his family, friends, church, and community to make it happen. About 6 years ago Eugene was diagnosed with diabetes. Although his diabetes coupled with high blood pressure is well managed, these diseases have already damaged his kidneys.
Rev. Eugene spent a few of his childhood years growing up in Oklahoma City, OK. Then his parents relocated the family to Jones, OK where they began their love of farming – cows, pigs, chickens, gardening, harvesting, and canning. Eugene is no stranger to hard work. While growing up on the family’s small farm, he was a hard worker; and if needed, a helping hand was extended to his uncle for hauling hay. So many times, he would sneak to talk on the phone with his childhood sweetheart, now wife, while churning butter. During his adult years he married his childhood sweetheart, has been blessed with children and grandchildren, earned an undergraduate degree in Social Work and a Master degree in Marital and Family; accepted his calling into Ministry, served as Pastor of Union Baptist Church of Watonga, OK for 11 1/2 years and First Baptist Church of Chickasha, OK for 5 ½ years. He used all the skills, talents, and education given to him by God to help develop and encourage each parishioner. Also, you may know Rev Eugene from the OK VA Medical Center in Oklahoma City, OK where he works in the Audiology department or you may know him from Bethlehem Baptist Church where he plays piano and guitar for the Men’s Chorus, teaches and preaches as an Associate Minister.
After many years of helping others, Eugene is now the one who needs our help. Even with health insurance coverage transplantation procedures are very expensive. Funding this life-saving procedure is a monumental task, as there will be many medical expenses not covered by insurance such as annual/catastrophic deductibles, co-pays, clinic visits and anti-rejection medications that he will need to be on for the rest of his life. These medical expenses cost could top $25,000.00 or more!
To help offset such expenses, a fundraising campaign in Curley’s honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law, are held by Help Hope Live in the South-Central Transplant Fund, and are administered by Help Hope Live for transplant-related expenses only.
