A Life Worth Living: Help Lisa Sykes

Lisa Sykes, is an over comer, believer, and conqueror. She has been afforded a double lung transplant and is seeking help from her community, family, and friends to make it happen. Although she is thankful to be accepted as a transplant recipient and surely knows it is a once in a life time opportunity, it is a very costly procedure and a process that is expensive.

A 48-year old recovered addict, who has been blessed with a second chance to enjoy an amazing life, Lisa was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis 14 years ago and was given 2 years to live. She made a decision back then to change her life style and to dedicate her life to her Heavenly Father, a healthy life style, her family and friends. Her goal was to make something out of her life with whatever time God had given her on this earth. She got busy and started attending high school and after 2 years recently graduated from high school and earned her high school diploma, what an accomplishment. Lisa is now in the process of getting her Peer Support Certification and will eventually be able to work with youth that are suffering from drug and alcohol addictions.

Lisa is determined to give back and to make a difference in not only her life, her families and friends lives, but in someone who is broken. She has so much to offer and will make a difference!

We have learned that the transplant process and procedure can be overwhelming and Lisa will need support mentally, emotionally and financially. Lisa has a wonderful family that will be there to support her emotionally. These include her sisters, Jeannie and Wanda, her four children, grandchildren, a host of family members, friends, and her Life Church family in Salt Lake City, Utah. All though, there is a support group in place to assist Lisa emotionally as she undergoes this procedure, there is still a financial strain that has a huge impact.

Lisa feels blessed and has a spirit of gratitude that she has been granted this life-changing transplant opportunity and a second chance at life. She knows that once the transplant is successfully completed there will be several medical expenses that will not be covered by her insurance, which causes an enormous amount of stress. These costs consist of co-pays for medication and transportation to and from the hospital, doctor’s visits and any unexpected cost that may arise. These are costs that she is unable to afford.

To help with the financial burdens a fundraising campaign has been established through Help Hope Live, this is a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising and guidance to help patients and families in need for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, and are held by Help Hope Live in the Utah Lung Transplant Regional Restricted Fund. Donations are allocated by Help Hope Live based on financial need for medical expenses. Please consider making a contribution today to help Lisa achieve this wonderful chance at life.

Gratefully,
