Meet Joseph Tindall, Joey to his friends and family. Not your average 18-year-old. He graduated from high school, loves playing video games, and is passionate about firefighting. While fulfilling his dream of being a firefighter, he had a heart attack due to Cardiac Allograft Vasculopathy (CAV). The only cure is another heart transplant.
Yes, that’s correct, another heart transplant. That’s why Joey is not an average 18 year old. He was born with multiple heart defects and at the age of 7, after spending 12 days on ECMO, Joey got his first gift of life. For the first 8 years, he could have been the poster child for transplantation. He never had any rejection or illness besides the average cold. Then, he presented with a pericardial effusion.
He underwent two surgeries for pericardial windows and four Pericardiocentesis in six weeks. After that, he was monitored closely until 2016 when he was relisted after his heart attack.
Joey is looking forward to starting his life after receiving this most special gift
Family and friends of Joey Tindall are raising money to pay for uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation.
Joey has chosen to fundraise with Help Hope Live in part because Help Hope Live assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility to the full extent allowed by law for donors. Donors can be sure that funds donated will be used only to pay or reimburse medically-related expenses. To make a tax-deductible donation to this fundraising campaign, click on the Donate Now button.

Joey’s getting his bike this weekend!!! No more excuses, get out there and RIDE those pounds and emotions AWAY!!!! The Joester had an awesome week. The eating disorder and weight loss program at the University of Pennsylvania ROCKS!!! Thanks Sharon.
It’s been quite some time since we’ve updated. Joey has been battling some pretty serious depression, which has led to weight gain and being put on the inactive list. Which is sad but everything happens for a reason, right???
Joey has been seeing a therapist at his transplant facility who has been amazing, he switched Joey’s antidepressants, (which one of the side effects was weight gain) which has given me, my son back (almost). His therapist has also has gotten him into the center for weight and eating disorders at the University of Pennsylvania. Which has been a blessing, his dietitian is an absolute dream. Catering to Joey’s wants and needs. This is our 5th Dietitian and Joey has finally connected with one of them!!! As of now Joey is heading in the right direction. We are trying to get him a bicycle. So he can do a little something. Not being able to do “anything” has really taken a toll on him.
His condition is stable but critical, we are more than hopeful that in the near future he will be back on the active list and transplanted soon.
