We are writing to ask for your prayers and support. Our health journey started over 20 years ago when at the age of 41, Ray had a massive heart attack. Fortunately, with careful monitoring of medications, Ray maintained his health. However, in May 2010, Ray had another heart attack and was told that he would need a heart transplant in order to survive.
Fortunately, on October 4, 2012 Ray received a heart transplant. The great blessing of a new heart and a rejuvenated life where Ray can enjoy being with family is nothing short of a miracle.
However, just as Ray’s health was improving, Hollees’ health was in decline. In late summer of 2008, Hollees was rushed the hospital in terrible pain. It was determined that she had an extremely large kidney stone that would be best to be removed surgically. Surgery was scheduled shortly thereafter, but unfortunately things did not go as planned and there was too much bleeding, and the kidney had to be removed to save her life. Then, in the beginning of 2013 we found out that Hollees had a very aggressive cancer in her only remaining kidney. She had the kidney removed and started on dialysis immediately thereafter. Now, Hollees is in need of a life-saving kidney transplant.
Unfortunately these miracles come at a high cost. The cost of the transplant itself is staggering. The cost of survival for each of us is even more expensive. Even with insurance, there are co-pays, deductibles, travel to and from the doctor’s offices and hospital, and the costly anti-rejection medications (approx. $15,000 per year) we will have to take for the rest of our lives.
To help ease the financial burden a fundraising campaign in our honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, and are held by HelpHOPELive in the Northeast Heart/Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant related expenses only. Your contribution is greatly appreciated.

Terry Sutton from the Cheshire Citizen wrote such a great article about Ray and my journey with organ transplant and the importance of organ donation. It was in the Cheshire Citizen 4/13/17. Please check it out!

I think I am finally making progress towards better health. The last few months have been difficult, but bearable. I ended up in the hospital for a few days every week for the last 8 weeks. I got to spend New Years Eve AND then a few weeks later, my birthday in the hospital. Great way to start the new year!
On December 18, 2016. I had the kidney transplant! Everything is going well. I'm feeling good, a little sore but that is to be expected. Thank you to everyone for your best wishes, visits and donations. Now the fun begins!
