Over the following six months Bill would experience two months in intensive care at Marin General, several heart stops, pneumonia, surgery to install his heart pacemaker, surgery to secure his neck/spinal column and countless other treatments.
Bill then lived at Care Meridian, an assisted living center in Fairfax, CA where he worked each week to regain the use of his arms, fingers, legs and toes so that he can improve his quality of life and become more independent.
Bill was recently transferred to the California Pacific Regional Rehabilitation Center in San Francisco. This is an intense acute rehabilitation program where he will have a team of doctors and therapists to help him regain his mobility through intensive physical therapy and occupational therapy.
The costs for this effort are fantastic. Thankfully, the insurance does provide a wide assortment of benefits but it does not cover all the costs associated with Bill’s injury. For example, his power wheelchair. The Banse’s decided it important to include an option which raises and lowers the position of the chair. The insurance company did not view this option as a medical necessity; therefore, the additional $2,000 for the feature is not covered. Another example is the compression gloves Bill wears on his hands to counteract the edema. These $460 gloves are not covered by the insurance.
Household renovations – approx. $60,000 (if on time and on budget, but how many home improvement projects are completed without surprise and on budget?)
These are just three examples of mounting out of pocket costs.
Let’s help reduce the financial impact to the Banse’s and help Bill, Cheree and Matthew focus on their new life today and into the future.
They are all doing their part, let’s help.
Just heard that you are HOME! Congratulations to your whole family for this wonderful event! Please know your church family continues to hold you all in prayer.
