Keisha’s long battle with Lupus came to a critical point when in 2011 she started showing signs of Kidney Disease.
At the young age of 27, due to a random bad Lupus flare-up Keisha was hospitalized for 2 weeks. Not knowing what had caused her health to decline so suddenly and drastically her family took her to the ER. After multiple tests were conducted, the result was End Stage Renal Failure. She was too weak to leave the hospital and was close to death. She had to start dialysis as soon as possible because her body was full of toxins.
Keisha despised doing dialysis at the Ranch with a passion and asked for other options of getting dialyzed. She was introduced to Peritoneal Dialysis, where she can do her treatments in the comfort of her own home, and with the daily assistance she has been able to maintain somewhat of a routine.
It has been a long, tough road, and it is not over. However, Keisha refuses to give up because she has two amazing reasons to keep pushing on. Her son Geremiah Young, age 11, encourages her to eat healthy and plug into her machine every night. Whereas her daughter, Kaylen Gooden, age 8, reminds Keisha to take every pill even the big, nasty ones (that Keisha occasionally tries to hide).
With a wonderful support team Keisha is trying to raise $10,000 to receive and Kidney Transplant so she can go back to enjoying life without plugging into a machine every night. In addition, she can spend time with her adoring children and adventurous friends and family. She has a passion to work with children and would love one day to be a guidance counselor for children of all ages.
Family and friends of Keisha Gooden are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation.
Keisha has chosen to fundraise for Help Hope Live in part because Help Hope Live assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility for contributors. Contributors can be sure donations will be used to pay or reimburse medical and related expenses. To make a tax-deductible donation to this fundraising campaign, click on the Give button.
