My mother, Carolyn Benson, is one of the strongest people I know. She managed to raise four beautiful flourishing children into college degrees, careers, and passions. She has managed an equal part of a marriage for over 30 years running. And she now has the pleasure of spoiling her current 3 grandchildren and counting.

All the while battling kidney disease for a considerable 10 years. That fight has come to a beautiful transition with the success of her recent kidney transplant surgery performed at The University of Vermont Medical Center. This is an incredible breakthrough in my mothers health and longevity. We are asking at this time for the support of family, friends, and colleagues to join us in fundraising through the nonprofit Help Hope Live for these coming 30 days minimum she is required to stay in and then near the facility following her release from the Intensive Care Unit.

Our mother has touched the lives of the people in her community with her fighting and selfless spirit. As her only daughter, I have seen time and time again my mother demonstrate her selflessness in the hopes that the loved one she was helping would prosper. The definition of a stubborn Scorpio, she has never been one to succumb to sickness. She has fought back by way of charity, named one of the Kidney Awareness Foundations’ head volunteers so that others may be spared from the harsh realities of developing Kidney Disease. Carolyn could use your financial support in this crucial recovery time.

As a Human Resources specialist for the city of Boston these past 22 years, my mothers health insurance only covers a selective amount of her everyday expenses. Disturbingly many aspects of transplant operations, such as anti-rejection medication, are not covered by her insurance. These post surgery medications and expenses can reach around 5,000 USD monthly for most of this coming year.
