Our son Collin has been battling end stage renal failure, spina bifida and hydrocephalus since birth. He has been on dialysis for almost 2 years now and has come to a critical point. He needs a kidney transplant to go on to live a long, full life.
We are asking family and friends to join us in fundraising for Help Hope Live to help us with critical expenses we face now and will continue to face after Collin has surgery, which on top of many appointments with many different doctors, includes the cost of lodging near the transplant center where he is required to stay a minimum of 30 days after discharge.
Collin is always happy and smiling despite all of his chronic health conditions. He loves fishing and playing outside. Collin has already been through 16 surgeries in his short little life, but he is a true fighter. He only has 11% function left in both kidneys combined and needs our help now!
Collin has health insurance, but many transplant expenses are surprisingly not covered. Some examples include the antirejection medications he will have to take for the rest of his life. To protect this gift of life, his new kidney, he will have to take 6 medications, all of which are $1500 or more a piece. The travel expenses to get to the numerous appointments Collin requires are not covered either. We travel 3 hours each way to Oklahoma University Children’s Hospital every week for dialysis and various other appointments, including his neurosurgeon, endocrinologist, urologist and GI doctors.
I am not able to work because of the commitment to Collin’s many hospital stays and appointments, while Collin’s father works EVERY day to try to keep us afloat. Please help as little or as much as you can. Every bit is necessary and appreciated. Thank you!
