Finally, after so many doctors just guessing what was wrong with me, they decided to do lab work. I got a phone call telling me to go the Emergency Room as soon as possible! At that time, I was in San Antonio working. I dropped everything and rushed to a hospital in Austin. I was admitted and had many tests done. After hours of waiting for results, the doctor came in and told me the shocking results. She said if I would have taken one day longer, I would have been dead. The diagnosis was kidney failure. That means that my kidneys stopped working and the reason was that they stopped growing and are the size of a 9-year-old.
Since that day, I have been in and out of the hospital and had many office visits. I have been on dialysis 3 times a week just for me to be able to survive and sometimes even a day extra due to extra fluid buildup.
I have always been active and outgoing. My life is not the same. I cannot be active because I get tired. I will get thirsty but cannot drink a lot because it causes fluid to build up and make me feel like I can’t breathe. This has not stopped me. I keep going with life and try to be positive. I help around the house as much as I can.
As you can imagine the cost of care, and hopefully when I get a kidney transplant, are extremely expensive. My family and I are facing many out-of-pocket expenses, such as office visits, medical insurance, hospital bills and travel when I must go to Temple for appointments. Once I get my transplant, the medications will be super expensive. I will need to be on bed rest for 3-6 months depending how my body reacts
I will need your support more than ever to have the best recovery. Any donations that I receive will be great and I do not have the words to thank you for all the help.
Thank you,
Mateo Yanez-Hernandez
