Hello, my name is Saundra (Sandy) Macdonald, the wife of Ron Macdonald. I am a Type 2 diabetic and take a 100 unit/ml Lantus injection every day. Because of my Diabetes my kidneys are failing and I’m in need of a kidney transplant.
Since Ron an I have retired from the OKC USBC Bowling Association on December 31, 2018 I have been working toward that goal. I am currently taking Dialysis 4 hour treatments three times a week.
For the past six months, I have been working with the Oklahoma TRANSPLANT Center at the Oklahoma Medical Center. To be a candidate for a transplant you must have your medical records up to date and your body in good health.
As of October 15, all required shots, heart scan, teeth exam, and all other checkups have been completed and forwarded to the Transplant Center. November 14th and 15th I had appointments with the Transplant Nephrologists to finalize the transplant procedure.
My daughter Shana has agreed to be a living donor and that should speed up the process, but she too had to go through several medical checks. She has completed all tests and has been approved as a donor. Thank GOD for her.
The Transplant Center has reviewed my insurance coverage through AARP Medicare Complete and determined I have adequate coverage for a kidney transplant. I will be responsible for the deductible and out-of-pocket amounts. There will be additional expenses that the insurance company will not cover because they do not consider them related to my medical care for a transplant; that being travel, anti-rejection medicine and home care equipment. This is why I am seeking help using a nonprofit, tax exempt fundraiser to pay for these uncovered expenses.
The total goal set by the Transplant Center is $10,000 with me needing to raise $3,000 by listing and then continuing towards that goal. This amount will help me with medical and prescription copays, over the counter medications, travel and incidental costs that may arise unexpectedly.
Ron’s brother has generously donated $1,000 to kick off my fundraiser. Thank you Bob Macdonald.
