Becky loves the outdoors, and is an active member of her church and community. She and her dog, Bailey, enjoy walking on the trails all over Duluth. She has always enjoyed going to the races, and loves geocaching. Her son, Garrett, is her pride and joy, and she is very proud of the young man he has become.
Becky has suffered from chronic pancreatitis for many years. There is a new procedure available, called a TP/IAT, and the transplant team at the University of Minnesota is one of the best. Surgery is scheduled for Feb 25th, and there will be a long recovery afterward. Please feel free to check in here and follow updates as they are available. We’ll try to keep everyone in the loop, as we work towards a full recovery. We thank you for your love, support and prayers!
We’re hoping this transplant will allow Becky to be able to continue to enjoy all of the things that she loves so much, with an ultimate goal being able to go back to work.
Your donation will help with costs that are not covered by insurance, including the cost of lodging near the transplant center where she is required to stay for a month following the surgery. For more information, please contact Help Hope Live at 800.642.8399.
Thank you for your support!
Becky has been doing really well! It's had its ups and downs, but she is back in Duluth, and got to have a visit with her dog, Bailey, today! Bailey can't come home just yet, as the incision is still healing, and Becky has a lot of physical restrictions while her body continues to mend. She isn't able to drive yet, but would love to go for a walk - so, if you're planning to go out geocaching, she'll ride shotgun and help you search! Thank you for keeping her in your thoughts and prayers, it will be be a long road to a full recovery, but she gets stronger every day!
Update at 7:54pm 2/25/19. Becky is still in surgery (12 hours!), but the surgeon just came out to say she is stable, and they are closing up. The islet yield was good, and they have been transplanted into her liver and abdomen. Only time will tell if they will survive and hopefully thrive, once again creating insulin, or if she will be a diabetic from now on. We hope to be able to see her in about an hour in the recovery room. Thanks again for all your positive thoughts and comments throughout the day!
