Alma Haley lives in Edwards, MS (and has lived in MS her entire life). She and her husband are parents of seven children, and have nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren Alma and her husband have also been foster parents to over 30 children, four of whom they adopted. She is a member of the Church of Christ and has volunteered in her local fire department
Unfortunately, Alma is currently in need of a lung transplant. Alma was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) that has caused life-threatening damage to her lungs and is on oxygen 24-hours-a-day. Last September she was evaluated for transplant at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL and is now on the active transplant waiting list.
Even with insurance, Alma will have many uninsured transplant-related expenses such as: co-pays and deductibles, doctor visits, travel and temporary relocation housing near to the transplant center and the costly anti-rejection medications that she will need to take for the rest of her life. At a time like this, the help of friends, family and community is greatly needed to make the outcome successful.
To assist her with these out-of-pocket expenses, a fundraising campaign in Alma’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Southeast Lung Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for the transplant-related expenses only.
